Ripley (ADOPTED!) is happy, lively, fun loving Australian Kelpie mix, who weighs 40 lbs. and is approximately 12-18 months old. This girl is a playful spirit, who loves all people, often enthusiastically greeting visitors with kisses. More than anything she just wants a human of her own. She follows her foster people from room to room, and adores being petted and belly rubs.
She is fine alone in the house, and enjoys riding in the car - happily sitting quietly and watching the world go by. If you don't want her in the front seat or with her head on your shoulder while driving, she will ride quietly in a crate, too. She is housebroken and learning that a crate is good for naptime.
As a young herding mix, Ripley hasan active brain. She would be best with people who can give her both the physical and mental exercise she craves. Ripley is one of the brightest, most intelligent dogs we have met, and she is very eager to please. As a result, she is a super quick learner, with incredible potential. It is clear that prior to our rescue, no one has taken the time to teach her any rules, manners, or routines. Her fosters are teaching her polite behavior and basic commands, and Ripley is doing great. Her ideal home would be on country property, with person(s) with prior training experience, time and willingness to continue teaching her manners, and that her pushy ways will not work.
Around other dogs, she is a confident, dominant female, who wants to meet other dogs by running up into their face. Ripley would benefit from socialization, and learning that what is fun to her, is rude to others. She would do best as an only dog, or with a well-balanced, non-reactive dog. Ripley is probably not good with cats. Ripley loves children, and seems to know to be gentle with the little ones. However, we believe Ripley should be in a home with children at least 7 years or older, as she could to jump up on people when she's excited to see them. She has NOT done this when meeting children. Also, her fosters are working with her on this.
Ripley is a happy, playful soul, with vast potential. She needs the right person, who respects a thinking dog, and can andwill make the commitment to teach her how to control her impulses to do whatever she wants. Once she learns, Ripley will be an amazingly wonderful, loyal, loving companion.
