(ADOPTED!) We are looking for a loving home for our beloved Umi. He is a 7 year old, cattle dog mix, 63 pounds. Umi is social and is wonderful around people. He meets new people and is comfortable with them immediately. He gives tons and tons of kisses, especially to your hand as he is getting a walk. He is happiest when trekking outdoors but loves a good cuddle indoors too. Umi is great on a leash, he does not pull and is extremely happy to go on walks and hikes. He also loves running in or near water. He is a great and quiet road trip companion, stays by his person in public places, and comes when called. He has no guarding behavior with food or toys. He sits, stays, lays, and will basically do anything for a carrot.
He is also great with other dogs and has interacted with an innumerable amount of dogs at dog parks, hiking trails, and beaches without a single incident. He has lived on a property with livestock and was comfortable in that setting. He has not lived with cats, and probably would be best suited in a home without cats.
Our boy is housebroken, and sleeps solo on his own bed through the night. Umi used to living in a working household, and is comfortable being home by himself during an average workday. He is used to being outside for 8+ hrs without us home. Umi enjoys laying in the yard, especially when it's sunny outside.
Umi has been our dearest loyal companion for 6.5 years, but sadly the last 20 months with a toddler have been very stressful on him and too extreme a change for his herding nature. Although he has been absolutely loving and protective of our baby until now, unfortunately, he bit her this week and we have realized we cannot provide a safe happy home for both him and our daughter. We are devastated, but hopeful that someone can offer him the companionship and attention he deserves.
He would do great in an all adult household, household with older children, and/or farm/ranch environment. Umi is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. He is currently located in Forestville, CA.
